Unusual Photographs of 2012
There’s a lot of unusual things happened in 2012 that left many people wanting more excitement. From the London Olympics, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee to the US Elections, the entire year felt like we’d been there before. Predictable Even the much anticipated Mars Rover Landing didn’t spark a lot of excitement. Remember Clint Eastwood’s speech to an empty chair at the GOP convention? Or Felix Baumgartner’s jump from 24 miles above earth? Or Gabby Douglas’ Olympic performance? Now those were astounding events with unusual photographs.
I agree that the scandals surely had us talking. General Patraeus’ drama, Lance Armstrong’s fall from grace of even royalty in their birthday suit in Vegas. Who could forget that? Even if we wanted to.Moving onto our well known celebrities. There was Angelina Jolie at the Oscars, Rihanna and Chris Brown getting tongues wagging, but nothing that really got the media going.
Remember Obama’s first election? Well this year’s re-election was merely calculated and completely uninspiring. The protests in Egypt, the civil war in Syria, even the attack on the US embassy in Benghazi didn’t catch anyone’s attention for very long.
Truth is, all topics of interest came with a sad resignation and disbelieving shock. The death of Travon Martin, the rampage on the movie theater in Aurora. I didn’t know if I was seeing a really bad doomsday movie or despairing over the tragic events that make our today.
There was an air of solemnity with the 100 year anniversary of Titanic and the 50th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe. Even the Rolling Stones came as a foreseeable bombast. At the end of it all it was the Korean YouTube sensation gyrating across every TV screen that entertained her all year round. But even Psy got old as covers poured over the internet and left us filled to the brim.
But despite all that, Time Magazine published a gallery of images from 2021 that are still awe-worthy. These pictures try and uplift us from a rather mundane year where the highlight was a man talking to a chair and a man falling from the earth.
