Fan Art of Hot and Sexy Fictional Character Catwoman

Catwoman is a fictional character associated with DC Comics’ Batman franchise. Historically a supervillain, the character was created by Bill Fingerand Bob Kane, partially inspired by Kane’s cousin, Ruth Steel.Kane, a frequent movie goer, also mentioned that Jean Harlow was a model for the design.

The original and most widely known Catwoman, Selina Kyle, first appears in Batman #1 (Spring 1940) in which she is known as The Cat. She is an adversary of Batman, known for having a complex love-hate (often romantic) relationship with him. In her first appearance, she was a whip-carrying burglar with a taste for high-stake thefts. For many years Catwoman thrived, but from September 1954 to November 1966 she took an extended hiatus due to the newly developing Comics Code Authority in 1954. These issues involved the rules regarding the development and portrayal of female characters that were in violation of the Comics Code.

Here’s a commission of Catwoman in her classic costume.
It’s a cool costume. I kind of dig the evening gown look, and I really like the way the cape works into her outfit, rather than just being tied around her neck like most characters.

I saved out steps and intend to use the steps to do a unique type of Live Stream today where I go through them, briefly talk about each, and then show the PSD. I think it could be fun.
This design is based off my redesign of Catwoman that’s already in my gallery with some new twists. I went with the blond Selina.

Catwoman 48 cover.

I miss doing CATWOMAN covers. I wanted to do more like this, in the murky film noir setting of Gotham City and its environs. I kinda like how Selina is disappearing into the shadows, and you can only tel her from from her leathery highlights.
On this one, Selina is actually witnessing a doppleganger of herself get shot, off-panel (it’s OK; its a setup she concocted, with the doppleganger’s aid, to fake her death). We didn’t want to give away the end of the issue, but we knew it was the Big Moment and should be on the cover.

Today’s deviation is the line art to my CATWOMAN 64 cover. Pencil & ink on Strathmore 300 board, cold-press, probably about 12″ X 18″. I ink with a Scharff no. 4 watercolor brush, and do all the hatching and techinical stuff with a Rapidograph technical pen.
I’ll post the color version next. I added thinsg like the snow in the coloring stage, and threw in a few bats because I thought it added some action to a static shot.
I was shooting for a sense of altitude and freezing cold in this one. Nothing special, just a pin-up.

OK, let’s call this Rough Sunday. I’m going to post a few peices that are not as polished as my regular work; they fall somewhere in between finished work and con sketches.
Catwoman 79. This is about as rough as it gets. Because of scheduling problems (meaning: I was behind on everything), I didn’t have time to do this cover. So, I colored my prelim and handed it in. Thinking it intentional, everyone at DC liked my ‘rougher approach’. Yikes.
This prelim was done on animation paper with Pitt pens, and then scanned and colored in Photoshop (where all the lettering was slapped together).
I really wanted to go all-out on this one, but wasn’t able to. Looking at it now, it does have a nice rough quality that my admittedly anal work us missing. Maybe someday I’ll grow some balls and do more work like this.
I loved the concept they let me go for on this. Selina returns to Gotham from a long adventure abroad (i.e. outer space) and is overjoyed to be home, in a “THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT!” musical number kind of way. But since she’s back in Gotham City, the worst city in the world, it’s chock full of your daily FDA dose of irony.

Regardless of the story, I wanted to draw Selina driving off into the night, in a vintage convertible (stolen, obviously), money blowing out of a bag (“Friend, yer foldin’ cash’s come unstowed…”), wearing the quintessential little black dress, black scarf, and big black ‘scandal glasses’.

I love Catwoman, always have. To be honest I loved the actress from the Adam West cracky series the most, I mean, Julie Newmar’s cat burglaress was by far the prettiest villain my 10 year old self had ever seen, and I never quite understood why he kept putting her in jail. I mean, she was pretty, and frankly she was going to get out again anyway.
